The IAM Test Availability.

IAM tests are booked through and allocated by the "Booking Office" at IAM HQ in London - telephone 020 8996 9600 or see HERE for contact details.

Generally I conduct tests throughout the year, weather permitting.  Priority is given to the standard IAM test with the Special Assessments taking second place.  Quality Assurance visits around the country are arranged to be mutually convenient with local motorcycle examiners and their candidates.  Visits to Groups to give presentations, attend meetings or assist with Observer training etc. usually require some advance notice.

Out with British Summer Time it should be understood that I conduct motorcycle tests on the basis of flexibility to take account of prevailing road and weather conditions.  Whilst I believe an Advanced Motorcyclist should be capable of riding their machine at night, in wind and in rain, common sense has to apply and though snow and ice do not deter some enthusiastic or professional motorcyclists, these do not make for best test conditions.  Good weather allows the candidate to display their skills to the best, making use of the available road surface for example, rather than being confined to the clear track behind the snow plough!  The IAM require that the tests are conducted during daylight so evening tests at my latitude are generally confined to the beginning of May through to the end of September.

Obviously there are far more test slots through the day, Monday to Friday, than at the weekend.  Consequently candidates who are available for test other than on a Saturday, are more likely to be tested sooner than later.  However Saturday and Sunday tests are accommodated wherever possible, without undue delay.

The following periods are published for candidates information, showing when other commitments prevent me from personally conducting tests.  Naturally I do not update this web page every day so the list is not definitive... but this should give candidates a general flavour of when there might be a local delay and when tests can be conducted at short notice... once the forms have been received from IAM HQ in London.
