“Time to wake up E-Boats on the South Coast”

Esprit Rounding the Needles - RTI 2003I have noticed several E-Boats around the Solent and Poole harbour and I am sure they need to lead a more active lifestyle. As a crew we are not very experienced at racing we are going to have a go this season, is anyone else up for the challenge?

Round the Island Race

Saturday 20th June 2009

We’re rounding up E-Boats for a show of force at the 2009 JP Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race on 20 June.  Gathering on the afternoon of the 19th in Shepards Wharf Marina in Cowes and followed by a few drinks and probably a curry or pizza.  Start this year is 0850 so we’ll all get a lay in and a bacon sandwich.  Warning – once you start entering this race you’ll want to keep on sailing it every year!  A great day out and will be followed by more social ashore.  Don’t forget to use your tankard for your 1st drink once ashore!  Info at:

Irish National E-Boat Championships

Friday 10th – Sunday 12th July 2009

We held our first Irish National E-Boat Championships in July 2004, had  successful events in 2005, 2006, 2007 & 2008 and are looking forward to our next Nationals in July 2009.  The Irish E Boat National Championships will again be held in Clontarf Yacht & Boat Club this year. The event will take place between 10th – 12th July and the format will remain the same with 6 races (mixture of Olympic and W/L courses) over 3 days.

The 2008 National Champion was Pat O’Neill sailing E 127 “OctopussE”.

We now have a total of 28 boats here with 19 in CY&BC and 7 in Skerries and 2 spare boats.

The racing continues to provide great enjoyment at club level and our Frostbite Series in CY&BC had 12 boats, which ensured some very close racing encounters.

We will be holding the “Liffey Challenge” again in 2009 in August and the “Lambay Island Race” will again be raced in June.

AGM.

The UK Club is going through a bit of a slack time at the moment, however the treasurer, Angus Stewart is trying to resurrect matters and bring some life back into the association. Any news I hear will be posted on receipt.
